MAPS & DIRECTIONS

The Museum is located in historic downtown Savannah, Georgia on M.L. King Boulevard a few blocks north of the Visitor Center. We have several maps available including driving directions, a downtown "walking" map, and a regional map of Savannah and the surrounding areas. Downtown Savannah lies a few miles east of I-95 at the end of I-16, an hour from St. Simons Island and Hilton Head, two hours from Jacksonville and Charleston.

VISITOR & GROUP PROGRAMS

The Museum offers many educational opportunities for visitors of all ages. Student programs include educational tours. For Girl Scout Troops the museum offers classes on the art of scrimshaw, sailor's valentines and painted merchant signs. THE GIFT SHOP

The shop contains a large selection of books related to maritime life, arts, and history. In addition there is also a variety of books on Southern gardening, architecture and history. Gifts related to the maritime theme of the museum are available for all ages.For more information, or to order items before or after your visit, please call (912) 232-1511.

The Ships of the Sea Museum is not equipped to provide research services, but we can help direct your search for information.

The Mariners' Museum in Virginia provides quite a bit of research information. Full listings of other maritime museums are available through the yahoo directory.

For more information on Old South architecture you may be interested in the definitive ten-volume Architecture of the Old South book series available from Savannah's Beehive Press. They publish numerous books on Savannah and Georgia history, including the illustrated Savannah Revisited.
